Church of the Third Order of Carmo Tour

Church of the ThirdChurch of the Third Order of Carmo (Majestic Historical Church). Near the cathedral square, the church of the third order of Carmo is home to significant works of colonial São Paulo, besides being one of the first chuches in town.
The wooden Rococo altar is from the 18th century and there are images of Our Lady of Sorrows, dressed with embroidered gold silk robes. There are paintings restored in the past decade, such as “Our Lady with the Child and Santa Teresa” (1785), and the lining of the ship made by the priest Jesuíno of Mount Carmel ( 1798). On the altar is the tomb of Pedro Dias, an important early settler. A chair used by the emperor Dom Peter 2nd has been preserved and continues in the church.

This Church does not call attention on the outside, but those who enter the temple, can see the most beautiful church in the city of São Paulo. The sidewalls of the nineteenth century wood carvings draw attention. It is the Christ of Cold Stone. It is the image, sadly mutilated, Christ carrying the cross.
It is the foot of Christ with his hands tied. It is Our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. It is Jesus in the garden, overcoming pain and death. The church has always been attended by wealthy people, but today it’s also attended by faithful from all walks of life, faith and enchantment.
