Largest Set of Caves of Latin America Tour
Largest Set of Caves of Latin America (PETAR). The Tourist Park is considered one of the most important protected areas in the world. It’s home to the largest portion of preserved Atlantic Forest of Brazil with more than 300 caves. It’s now considered a World Heritage Site recognized by UNESCO.
The park features an important natural biodiversity, represented the remnants of Atlantic Forest, the paleontological, archaeological and historical sites, and for hosting one of the important speleological provinces Brazil with countless caves.
The mountainous formation and thick vegetation present in the region act as a barrier to the winds coming from the South Atlantic, causing a high wet precipitation. The acidic water in the calcareous rocks for thousands of years propitiated the formation of caves with floors, walls and ceilings decorated by numerous speleothems (stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, columns, etc.)
