Matarazzo Building (Historical landmark – City hall). Located in downtown São Paulo, the Matarazzo building is one of the postcards of the city and headquarters of it since 2004.
The building was opened at the late 1930 and was named in honor of its owner, the businessman Francisco Matarazzo Jr. The building was transferred to the city of São Paulo after the renegotiation of the debt of the 2004, when it started to house the headquarters of the municipal administration.
The building has 14 floors and a garden with over 400 species of plants and a small koi pond on the top floor. With a style reminiscent of the Italian buildings of the 30s, Piacentini Architect, who was also known as the “Mussolini’s architect”, incorporated into building some of the features of neoclassical architecture, as the grandeur and magnificence.
In the lobby, the walls are tiled in travertine marble, giving a luxurious look to the site. Eventually, there are exhibitions of works of art in this space.
