Open Museum of Urban Art – MAAU. One of the first open-air museums in the world is located in the northern part of the city of Sao Paulo, in the Santana district. The region was already considered to many as the birthplace of São Paulo graffiti and today houses the MAAU.
The project started after 11 graffiti painters were arrested for paintings on the area. After months, the group has matured the idea that later was supported by the State of Culture department.
Besides the works, the place has also undergone renovations with grass on the mediums between the beams and the sidewalks were turned into lanes for bicycles. Among the performers are: Speto, Binho Ribeiro, Chivitz, Minhau and Highraff. The works are a tribute to topics such as nature, urban life, and suburbs by the artist Frida Kahlo.
